The AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are returning to Indianapolis in 2007 after more than 33,000 fans came through the turnstiles last year. Don’t miss the action as national champions are crowned at the Indiana University Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of IUPUI. Today’s stars will be “Chasing the Champions” on a track that has yielded world records over the years.
The final stop of the Visa Championship Series is also the qualifying meet for the 2007 IAAF World Championships. The nation?s top elite and junior track & field athletes will be in Indianapolis. Expected to compete are Sanya Richards and Jeremy Wariner, the 2006 Jesse Owens Award winners. Both athletes completed undefeated seasons in the 400 meters in 2006, with Richards adding the American record to her résumé. Other Olympic stars scheduled to compete are Tyson Gay, Bernard Lagat, Adam Nelson and Allyson Felix.
Fastest Kid in the City Schedule and Guidelines
Print and return the 2007 “Fastest Kid in the City” Registration Form to be a part of this great event.
Whether a novice or competitive runner, all children are welcome to participate as the “Fastest Kid in the City” is crowned. Children are divided among three age divisions and range in age from 4-13. The event is a 60-meter dash for younger children and a 100-meter dash for the older children. A qualifier will be held at Carroll Stadium at IUPUI on Saturday, June 23 at approximately 6:30 p.m. Qualifiers will return Sunday, June 24 for the finals during the 2007 AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. All finals participants receive a prize, the opportunity to run on the same track as former Olympic champions and have their name and time displayed on the official scoreboard.
This is the second year for the event as six-year-old Elijah Mareegetts of Brownsburg, 10-year-old James Smock of Indianapolis and 10-year-old Tommy Neal of Indianapolis were all named “Fastest Kid in the City” in 2006, winning finals during the AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
