Benjamin Harrison Home Tours
House tours begin on the hour and half-hour at the front door of the museum. The first tour begins at 10am. The last tour begins at 3:30pm. All tours are guided. There is no public waiting area located inside the house, so please try to arrive on the hour or half-hour. Tours are approximately one hour in length. Visitors will see 10 rooms in the museum, including the third floor ball room (when it is not closed for a period in between rotating exhibits). All of the floors are accessible by elevator (basement, 1st and 2nd floors) or elevette (3rd floor ball room). Visitors not wishing to visit the second or third floors are asked to watch a video presentation on the first floor. The 1875 Italianate Victorian home of President Benjamin Harrison, our country’s 23rd U.S. President (1889-1893) and Indiana’s only President, figured prominently in Harrison’s campaign for the Presidency and provides insight into his family’s life and history. The three-level historic landmark is beautifully furnished with many of Harrison‘s paintings, furniture, and other artifacts including political memorabilia. The reconstructed carriage house (located behind the home) features our Women’s Suffrage Exhibit, entitled “From Bustles to Ballots.” Our special exhibit for 2006 is Death in the White House: A Nations Mourns, which will tell the heart-felt stories of the eight U.S. Presidents and three First Ladies who died in the White House (including two Harrisons), and the nation’s response to those losses~culturally, emotionally, materially, etc. These exhibits are included in the price of the daily tour. Â
