North Street and Pennsylvania Street
Indianapolis, IN, 46226
It wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s Day without the annual Indianapolis Athletic Club (IAC) Sports Foundation St. Patrick’s Day parade. Mayor Bart Peterson kicks off the festivities with the greening of the downtown canal in the morning. Next up is the 5-mile Shamrock Run & Walk, followed by the start of the parade at North and Pennsylvania streets. The Indianapolis Police Department motorcycle drill team will lead the parade, followed by the Indianapolis 500 Gordon Pipers, a bagpipe and drum band; stepdancers; and Irish family clans. Local school bands and sports teams and their mascots will also be on hand to entertain the crowd. And you just might catch a celebrity or two — both the mayor and governor plan to be on hand, along with broadcasters from local TV and radio. To finish the day, the IAC will announce the Irish Person of the Year, who will be serenaded by the Pipers, and new this year is a celebration from 10AM-3PM in his or her honor.
